England paceman Stuart Broad has been ruled out of the rest of the World Cup due to a side strain, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced on 8th March, Tuesday.
Broad will join teammate Kevin Pietersen on the sidelines after picking up the injury during his four-wicket haul in England's six-run win over South Africa in Chennai on Sunday.
England are yet to confirm who will replace him, but Chris Tremlett, who has been travelling with the squad as back-up, is favourite. However the ECB will need to apply to the World Cup technical committee first.
Broad will head home in the next 48 hours for further assessment in the UK which will determine his recovery and rehabilitation timescale. He is due to appear for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL which starts in April but that will now depend on the assessment of the ECB's medical staff.
It is the second injury blow for England inside 24 hours after star batsman Pietersen left for home to undergo a hernia operation. Pietersen will be replaced by Eoin Morgan.
England will face their next match against Bangladesh at Chiitagong on 11th March.
