Tamil Nadu State Government has instituted an award in memory of the doyen of Carnatic music M.S.Subbalakshmi. Music maestro Ilayaraja was on Monday named as the recipient of the prestigious award. The TN Government announced this in a press note issued on Monday. TN Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, had announced in the Assembly in 2009 that renowned artistes will be honoured with awards instituted in the names of MS Subbulakshmi, Bharathiar and Balasaraswati. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh. Noted Writer Jayakanthan was honoured with the Bharathiar award and danseuse Padma Subramaniam was bestowed with the Balasaraswati award.
